# Initiatives

An **initiative** is an individual business case. It contains all the details required to evaluate financial value, including attributes, benefits, costs, actuals, and comments, and can be submitted through an approval workflow to become active.

## Creating an initiative

  <Step title="Complete the New Initiative form">
    Fill in the **Name**, choose a **Strategic Theme**, select the parent **Portfolio** and **Product**, set the **Start Month**, and select a \*\*Risk Level \*\*(Low, Medium, or High).

  <Step title="Click &#x22;Create Initiative&#x22;">
    The initiative is created in **Draft** status. You may now add details, benefits, and costs before submitting for approval.
